Bayesian dynamic modeling of time series of dengue disease case counts

The aim of this study is to model the association between weekly time series of dengue case counts and meteorological variables, in a high-incidence city of Colombia, applying Bayesian hierarchical dynamic generalized linear models over the period January 2008 to August 2015. Additionally, we evaluate the model’s short-term performance for predicting dengue cases. The methodology shows dynamic Poisson log link models including constant or time-varying coefficients for the meteorological variables. Numerical propagator method solutions for the linear parabolic initial boundary-value problems

On the base of our numerical propagator method a new finite volume difference scheme is proposed for solution of linear initial-boundary value problems. Stability of the scheme is investigated taking into account the obtained analytical solution of the initial-boundary value problems. It is shown that stability restrictions for the propagator scheme become weaker in comparison to traditional semi-implicit difference schemes. There are some regions of coefficients, for which the elaborated propagator difference scheme becomes absolutely stable. It is proven that the scheme is unconditionally monotonic. Stress-Strain Law for Confined Concrete with Hardening or Softening Behavior

This paper provides a new general stress-strain law for concrete confined by steel, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP), or fiber reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM), obtained by a suitable modification of the well-known Sargin’s curve for steel confined concrete. The proposed law is able to reproduce stress-strain curve of any shape, having both hardening or softening behavior, by using a single closed-form simple algebraic expression with constant coefficients. A PDE model for the spatial dynamics of a voles population structured in age

Abstract We prove existence and stability of entropy weak solutions for a macroscopic PDE model for the spatial dynamics of a population of voles structured in age. The model consists of a scalar PDE depending on time, t , age, a , and space x = ( x 1 , x 2 ) , supplemented with a non-local boundary condition at a = 0 . The flux is linear with constant coefficient in the age direction but contains a non-local term in the space directions. Also, the equation contains a term of second order in the space variables only. Existence of solutions is established by compensated compactness, see Panov (2009), and we prove stability by a doubling of variables type argument.

Higher order matrix differential equations with singular coefficient matrices

In this article, the class of higher order linear matrix differential equations with constant coefficient matrices and stochastic process terms is studied. The coefficient of the highest order is considered to be singular; thus, rendering the response determination of such systems in a straightforward manner a difficult task. In this regard, the notion of the generalized inverse of a singular matrix is used for determining response statistics. Further, an application relevant to engineering dynamics problems is included.
